Chapter 499: Another ’Surprise’?!

After such a long and tiring day, Lin Xuan Qi couldn’t wait to get to the dining hall to have dinner with Xue Cong and the others.

He wasn’t expecting the day to be so busy.

Old Heng and the others wanting to join so soon was a pleasant and tiring surprise.

But that wasn’t all.

While he was having dinner, the guards had to come in intermittently to inform him that there was someone requesting a visit.

He had to stop and entertain the young masters that came.

Most of them had heard about Lin Xuan Qi and they were eager to establish a better relationship with him.

Many of them tried to invite him to the brothels for a drink, but he said no.

He went on and briefed them on the details about the franchise instead, since he knew that it was what they had actually come for.

They also wanted to join, but for them, he persuaded them to wait until he had the store ready.

Lin Xuan Qi didn’t want to take on more than he could chew at the moment.

It was best for him to deal with Old Heng and the others first, and when things were stabilized with the production ramped up, he would then be more confident about getting more franchisees.

And who knows, he might be able to expand to the other cities after that.

So, in the end, it was also a long night for him, having to deal with these young masters throughout his dinner.

Thankfully, the next few days were relatively free for him and he spent his time in the lab to focus on his cultivation.

Lin Xuan Qi flipped through the manuscript for the Daoist Five-Element Cultivation Techniques and stopped at the section that was for the spells that someone at Foundation Establishment Level could learn.

He started with the more powerful versions of spells for the Fire, Water, Ice, and Earth elements.

Each allowed him to draw in more of the Five Elements in the surroundings to increase the power and intensity of the spells.

Fireballs, for example, were now the size of an adult compared to what they were before.

And that was not all, there were spells called the Spiritual Attack and Spiritual Control spells that allowed him to make use of his Spiritual Sense to attack and control his opponents.

After Lin Xuan Qi read the instructions, he sat down in lotus position and closed his eyes to try them out.

He chanted the spell and tried to focus on his Spiritual Sea.

But all he got was darkness and nothing else.

He didn’t give up and tried to use more of his Five-Element Qi and tried again.

Blurry visions of the surroundings of the lab appeared, and he could even see the blurry silhouettes of Zhi Yong and Lee He Song’s figures.

They were in the lab with him and were busy with their own cultivation.

He didn’t stop and tried to shift ’himself’ towards the doors.

It worked.

The surroundings moved and the doors started to get closer.

Voices of the guards passing by and the servant girls gossiping could then be heard as he got closer to the door.

Lin Xuan Qi didn’t stop and tried to get outside of the lab.

Miraculously, he was able to do so as if the doors weren’t there.

Right outside, there were the snow-covered surroundings of the mansion.

Lin Xuan Qi saw Xue Cong passing by and he wanted to follow behind her, but when he tried to do so, everything blanked out.

Then, there was the familiar darkness of his Spiritual Sea.

Lin Xuan Qi opened his eyes and panted.

He felt a sense of fatigue overcome him and had to rub his temple with his hand.

It seemed that trying to use the Spiritual Attack and Control spells was too early for him at the Foundation Establishment level.

Lin Xuan Qi wiped the sweat off his brow and took out a Five-Element Stone.

Since his level wasn’t enough right now, the best thing to do next was to work hard and get to the next level.

He continued with the cultivation with Zhi Yong and Lee He Song until it was late at night, after which he went back to his bedroom to rest.

But there was another ’surprise’ for him when he got back to his bedroom.

Xue Cong would usually be pouring him a cup of warm tea by the time he stepped through the doors.

However, she didn’t.

She glanced at him, opened her mouth briefly before she closed it again and looked away from him.

He figured that she had something to tell him but wasn’t sure.

"You know, as my wife, you can tell me anything." Lin Xuan Qi sat down beside her and said while looking into her big round eyes.

Xue Cong’s eyes darted around for a moment before she replied, "I’m not sure.

"I think I might be wrong."

She gave out a sigh and lowered her head.

"Wrong about what?" He asked while he wrapped his arm around her and rubbed her back gently.

That soothed her and gave her more comfort.

Finally, after a few moments, she lifted her head slowly, glanced at him and said, "I think I’m also pregnant, but I’m worried that I got it wrong.

"It might just be me getting too stressed and thinking that I was like Yue Xin."

Lin Xuan Qi shook his head and smiled at her.

Although she was the head mistress of the Clan and carried herself well, a part of her was still that young woman that he had met for the first time.

"So what if you got it wrong?" He asked.

"I was afraid... afraid that you might think that I’m vying for your attention."

He shook his head and hugged her closer to him.

"I would never think that."

Lin Xuan Qi knew what she was like, and that was the last thing he would think of her.

She might be conflicted about what she wanted, but she would never do anything that would anger him or make things worse for him.

"There’s no point getting worried between the two of us. It’s time to send for the physician."
