Chapter 1911 1.1910 Wangyun Cliff
When the sun was high in the sky, the two guardians returned in triumph.
Up and down Shizipo, everyone was overjoyed.
Without delay, Granny Yun Jingmeng, who remained at Yunmeng Cave, gathered the remaining troops and calmed their morale. Then, she used the Five Ghosts Moving Mountain Technique to move the entire Yunmeng Cave to Shizipo.
In this way, Shizipo becomes Wangyun Cliff, and Yunmeng Cave rises abruptly from the ground, forming its own independent range. Jiayuan Temple, Qianlong Archway, Jile Temple, and Huitian Pavilion are incorporated into it, each becoming a scenic spot in the mountains. The four sites each occupy a mountain peak, connected to Yunmeng Cave by stone steps and suspension bridges. The central, interconnected area is Wangyun Cliff.
Just as the saying goes, "There's only one path to Mount Hua since ancient times." The path to Wangyun Cliff is also the only one. From the mountain gate, it's heavily guarded. Truly, one man can hold the pass against ten thousand. Even if an enemy comes knocking, they won't gain the slightest advantage in a short time.
On Wangyun Cliff, towering buildings stand side by side, like bamboo shoots after a spring rain, with scaffolding erected everywhere.
The renowned sect that has gathered the most skilled craftsmen in the mural world and is now fully supervising its construction is none other than the Demon Hunter Sect.
Looking around, there are a total of six major sects in the entire Wangyun Cliff: Jiayuan Temple, Qianlongfang, Jileguang, Huitiange, Yunmeng Cave and Lieyaomen.
Its momentum was unparalleled for a time.
Of course, the term "six major sects" has been overused in the martial arts world. Wouldn't it be wonderful to add another sect to make it seven?
Longshan Temple, murals on the back mountain.
"What brings you here, female benefactor?" The old monk asked leisurely, his worn-out brush meticulously depicting Wangyun Cliff.
"They slipped into hiding." The two women who arrived together, with their hair piled high in buns and embroidered palace robes, exuded an ethereal and naturally beautiful aura. They were none other than the Green Snake Spirit (Xu Manhua) and the Red Snake Spirit (Zhou Hong), thousand-year-old snake spirit sisters from the Diehu Underground Palace in Shangqiu, from the story of the beautiful snake in "Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio".
Legend has it that Shangqiu has always been a land brimming with spiritual energy. In the Diehu Underground Palace lived two snake spirit sisters who had cultivated for a thousand years. As the treasure map of the palace circulated, it attracted treasure hunters from all directions: "If you are destined to reach this mountain, the Cloud Fairy will descend to earth; she will offer you peaches of immortality, and wish you to be drunk at the Jade Gate Pass." Most who were fortunate enough to enter the Diehu Underground Palace were drained of their vital energy by the three illusory snake spirits—the Green Spirit Snake (Zhong Yanhong), the Red Spirit Snake (Mai Jiamei), and the White Spirit Snake (Xu Bei)—conjured by the snake spirit sisters' demonic power. This further attracted countless demon hunters who sought to kill the two snake spirits. This cycle repeated endlessly. The two snake spirits originally planned to fulfill their promise to Lady White Snake at West Lake after achieving enlightenment. However, things didn't go as planned, and they were invaded by a plot device. "A purple dragon descended from the sky, plunging the three realms into chaos," so they hastily fled into a painted wall to take refuge.
"Does this body possess any external things?" The old monk seemed to sense something.
"To be honest, Master, what I carry with me is the Diehu Underground Palace, the cave dwelling of my sister and me." The Azure Serpent took out its personal magical treasure, a luminous pearl hairpin. The luminous pearl on the hairpin shimmered with light, and a mirage was faintly visible. It was the cave dwelling of the two sisters, which was their own world (a small world).
"Very well. There is a great deal of construction going on in the wall, and you, benefactor, will surely find an opportunity there." With a flick of his brush, the old monk created an ink bridge.
"Thank you, Master, for your kindness!" The snake spirit sisters were moved to tears.
"Namo Amitabha Buddha," the old monk said, ending his sentence.
My eyes were suddenly filled with a vivid scene.
Looking back on the path we've traveled, the ink bridge has vanished.
"Where is this?" The red serpent spirit looked up and saw a solitary peak blocking its path.
"Look, sister," the Jade Serpent Spirit said, pointing to a stone tablet by the roadside: "Looking-at-Clouds Cliff."
“This stele is an ancient artifact.” The Red Serpent Spirit frowned slightly. “However, the inscription is quite new.”
"Most of them are old inscriptions repainted." The Jade Serpent Spirit chuckled softly: "The painted murals form a world of their own, certainly not the same as the human world."
Just then, the "Three Phantom Snake Spirits" materialized on their own. The three sisters instinctively looked at each other, their faces filled with astonishment.
"Huh?" Bi She's heart stirred: "I didn't expect (the old monk) to also have the supernatural power of 'painting skin'."
“This is an essential tool for vengeful ghosts to roam the human world.” The red snake looked at the three smug snake spirits who were wearing painted skins and couldn’t help but feel the same way: “Even monsters with low cultivation and no ability to transform can use painted skins to roam the human world without worrying about being like ‘rats crossing the street, hated by everyone’s eyes’.”
The so-called "vengeful ghosts roaming the human world" refers to the spirits of the dead who have no physical form and use the art of painted skins to walk among humans. The "Three Illusory Snake Spirits" were originally created by illusion magic. Now, they followed the Snake Spirit sisters of Diehu Lake into the painted wall and even put on painted skins on their own, which shows that the old monk with the bald brush must have great supernatural powers.
After traveling another two or three miles, the majestic and magnificent mountain gate came into view.
"It is the Three-Exit Gate." The snake spirit sisters, who had lived in the underground palace for a long time, naturally recognized the towering Three-Exit Gate.
A gate tower, also known as a que, guan, or xiangwei, is a landmark structure used in ancient city gates, palaces, or mausoleums. It typically consists of two towers, one on each side, with a gap in the middle, hence the name que or double que. Because one could observe from the top of the gate tower, it was also called guan. Furthermore, legal codes or government decrees could be displayed on the gate tower, hence the name xiangwei.
Among them, the triple-arched gate tower is the highest in rank and the rarest. A triple-arched gate tower refers to a structure with two smaller gate towers attached to the outer edge (or rear) of the main gate tower, decreasing in size progressively to create a distinct layered structure. Triple-arched gate towers were generally erected only in front of the emperor's palace and mausoleum, serving as a symbolic architectural representation of absolute imperial power. They are also known as the "Emperor's Triple-Arched Gate Tower." Triple-arched gate towers are extremely rare, and those that have survived to this day are extremely few and far between.
Unexpectedly, it was found in the mural.
A plaque bearing the three characters "Wangyun Cliff" hangs atop the triple-tiered tower.
At this moment, the mountain gates were tightly closed, the flags were lowered and the drums were silenced, as if facing a formidable enemy.
“This place is full of spiritual energy; it must be a geomantically auspicious place.” The Green Serpent looked up at the towering buildings and said softly, “It can shelter my sisters from the wind and rain.”
"Sister is absolutely right." The red snake's face lit up with joy, but she was also filled with trepidation: "I wonder if the master of this place will be able to accommodate us."
“It’s alright.” Bi She already had a plan in mind: “As the saying goes, ‘Those destined to meet will meet even if they are a thousand miles apart.’ Since it was Master (Bald Brush) who brought us here, I’m sure the host here won’t ‘turn us away.’ Let’s talk here at the city gate.”
"Hmm." The Diehu sisters moved gracefully closer.
Sensing the demonic aura, rows of crossbows and other mechanical devices immediately sprang up from the city walls. A pair of Vajra warriors descended from the sky, brandishing their swords and shouting, "Hey—what kind of demon are you!"
The wrathful Vajra puppet, standing two zhang tall (approximately 6.66 meters), was entirely made of purple-gold copper and adorned with cinnabar yin-yang runes. It had a blue face, fangs, three eyes, and four arms. It subdued demons and monsters, exorcised evil spirits. The female demon was mesmerized, exclaiming, "Puppet magic!"
"You also know puppetry?" The supernatural power is the "third eye" located between the brows of the wrathful Vajra. It seems to be able to connect with a person's five senses and understand their thoughts.
"The fairy is incredibly powerful; I have only glimpsed a fraction of her abilities," the green snake truthfully replied.
"What is the purpose of this visit?" The one who has opened the Heavenly Eye must be the sword-forging woman, Honghua.
"I only ask for 'three meals a day, a place to sleep, and a roof over my head'," the Green Serpent said earnestly.
Do you possess any magical treasures?
"I dare not leave my cave dwelling."
What is the name of the cave?
"Diehu Underground Palace".
"Does the lake have a spring that connects to the East Sea?"
"There is no spring that connects to the river or the sea."
"Alright, come in."
Before the words were finished, the mountain gate opened.
The fierce-looking Vajra stepped aside to make way.
